AhlulBayt News Agency: In a deeply disturbing incident reflecting the rise of hate-driven violence, a 22-year-old Muslim youth named Mueeb was brutally assaulted by a mob near Gurukul Kangri University in Haridwar on the night of June 26. The attack allegedly occurred after the assailants confirmed his religious identity.
According to eyewitnesses and the victim’s family, a group of 8 to 10 individuals abused and beat Mueeb with sticks. The area, known for being frequented by students and passersby, turned into the scene of a violent hate attack. Mueeb, an electrician by profession and a resident of Jwalapur, was left unconscious and had to be rushed to a government hospital.
Shockingly, the hospital only offered minimal first aid and declined further treatment due to the absence of a surgeon. Mueeb’s father then took him to a private clinic, but financial constraints forced the family to bring him home. His condition worsened that same evening, and he had to be taken to another doctor who advised immediate hospitalization.

Later that night, with the help of local activists, the family lodged a complaint at Kankhal police station. While a case was filed, no arrests have been made so far. A suspect named Pawan was briefly detained on June 28 but was released after questioning.
The incident has sparked outrage among civil society groups. Members of Janadhikar Party and Khudai Khidmatgar have visited the family and demanded strict action. “This is not just about one boy—it’s about upholding the rule of law and the Constitution,” said Hema Bhandari from Janadhikar Party.
Activists warn that such assaults are no longer isolated cases, but part of a worrying pattern of religiously motivated violence. With hate speech and mob attacks rising, rights groups are now urging the Uttarakhand government and police to act decisively, bring the culprits to justice, and restore public confidence in the rule of law.
